The two lines behind the net are not in regards to body contact, they are in regards to the goaltender playing the puck. If the puck is between those two lines, the goaltender is allowed to play the puck with his stick (i.e. stop the puck, pass it to a team mate, etc). The goaltender cannot play the outside of that area BEHIND the goal line. The goaltender is allowed to play the puck anywhere in front of the goal line. Here's the description from Wikipedia ... New in the 2005-06 season, after testing in the American Hockey League, is a trapezoid behind each goalie net. The goalie can only play the puck within that area or in front of the goal line. If he plays the puck behind the goal line and not in the trapezoid, a 2 minute minor penalty for delay of game will be assessed by the referees. This rule is widely referred to as the "Brodeur rule," after New Jersey Devils goalie Martin Brodeur, whose puckhandling behind the net is believed to be the cause for the rule.[1][2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Hockey_League_rules#Penalties)
The goalies cant touch the puck in the corners (outside the lines) or they get a penalty, designed for less collisions between goalies and players
A backup goalie, and three backup forward lines and 2 backup defense lines. 14 subs and 20 players in all, plus a couple extra for injuries and special teasers.
If you mean how many PLAYERS are on a hockey team, then it can vary. Minor hockey teams often have 12 skaters and 2 goalies, so 124 players. But on an NHL team, they have 4 lines of 5 skaters, so 20 skaters in total. Add on the 2 goalies and you get a total of 22 players on the average NHL hockey team.If you mean how many PLAYERS PER LINE on a hockey team, then there are 2 Defense, 3 Forwards, and 1 goalie. So that's 5 skaters, and 1 goalie.

The goal line

It's called the crease. And like a pitcher's mound (just ask Oakland's Dallas Braden) it's the goalie's office. A player from an opposing team is technically not allowed to stand in the area or he is in danger of being penalized although, sometimes they get away with it. A player from your own team is not allowed to cover, freeze, or in any manner hold on to the puck in that area. The goalie can of course do any of those things.

Typically there are 9 forward players (3 lines of 3 players each) and 5 defensemen. You also have to include the (possibly) most important player on the team: the goalie. Therefore, each team typically has 15 players.
In the beginning of the game, the center-man lines up at the middle of the ice (red line), the Left and Right wingers line up on the red line, away from the center men near the boards, and the two defence-men line up on the blue lines, and obviously the goalie covers the net.
