ANSWER:For the front wheel on most bikes, it wont matter. On The one I had, the rear axle had a specific groove for where the sprocket went and the axle wasnt interchangeable. You knew right away if It was on backwards because the chain wouldn't go on the bike. For the newer bikes, I truly don't know.
