That was the worst defeat since the beginning of the BCS. So the answer is technically correct. However, there have been worse defeats in bowl games that have determined the champion. In 1995, Nebraska beat Florida 62-24 in the Fiesta bowl. The winner of the game was destined to be the NCAA champion, so in a sense it was a championship game.
