The best defense ever in the league was the 1977 Falcons, also known as the Grits Blitz. This defense, under defensive coordinator Jerry Glandville, only allowed 129 points in the 14 game schedule. They also set the record for the fewest points allowed per game for the year with 9.2, this has not been broken and no team, not even the 1985 Bears have came close to breaking the 9.2 points per game.
