Thoroughbred horses were bred to be race horses. They are fast indeed, but it doesnt mean they are the fastest.
The Quarter Horse is the fastest horse in the world for short distances, 1/4 mile, more or less. That's why they are called quarter horses.
No, there is Arabian, Appaloosa, Thoroughbred, Quarter Horse, American Paint Horses, and mutt races. I know this because I am a horse racing freak. I keep a log on all TB race horses that have a chance in the big races (Kentucky Derby, Melbourne Cup, Belmont Stakes, etc...)
Over short distances (up to about a quarter mile) it is the American Quarter Horse. For medium distances (up to about 3 miles) the Thoroughbred tends to be the fastest. Over very very long distances (over 5 miles) it is the Arabian.
Definiteley. Thoroughbred are the fastest; they can run 45 mph. Actually, Quarter Horses are the fastest for a quarter of a mile, but then the Thoroughbreds have more endurance. Ponies are generally slower. Young horses are generally faster than older ones. Andalusiangirl
The fastest breed of horse is the American Quarter horse, which can reach up to 55 m/h (88 km/h) for a short distance. A Thoroughbred horse can only run as fast as 45mph.
For long distance its between the Thoroughbred and the Mustang but in a quarter mile its the American Quarter Horse (that's whay its their name)

umm, NO. no no no no this is a stupid question. horses are all about breeding, not coplour. For example a thoroughbred is the fastest compared to a shetland (obviously). Its nothing to do with colour, if the shetland was black it will still loose. IDIOT Geneii
Arabians are a tiny bit slower than thoroughbreds. There are race in the UK, that I have been to, which are Arabian horses only. These are usually flat races. There are also Anglo-Arabian races. These breed of horse is 50% Arabian and 50% thoroughbred. They are fast like a thoroughbred and have great stamina like arabians.
There are appaloosa horses and American saddlebred horses, thoroughbred horses and American quarter horses, there also are more types
Thoroughbreds are from England.
