Are the slate's and pockets on a pool table suppose to be even when installing?

The slate is the surface, the rails make the pockets. If the pocket edges don't line up evenly it is because the rails were installed in the wrong locations. At the factory, these are matched and numbered. If these don't appear to "be even", they were installed in the wrong locations.
