Generally no, Alaskan Malamutes are rarely, if ever, used in the Iditarod. This is because Iditarod racers breed their own variety of crossbred dogs that perform better in the endurance-testing race. Purebred Alaskan Malamutes are too heavy and prone to inherited illness to be used, although theoretically they could be used. The more experienced racers use a mixture of Labrador, Lurcher and Husky dogs to pull their sleds.
Alaskan Huskys, Malamutes,siberian Huskys
Huskies and Alaskan Malamutes are my opinion for the best dogs for the iditarod because that is what these breeds are meant to do. They have a tough, thick coat that will keep them warm in the very cold weather. And they have very strong paws and legs. Things like the iditarod are one of the reasons these dogs are in this world today. This is my opinion but it makes sense to me.
Not much, most races are run with Alaskan huskies or Siberian huskies because those dogs are faster.
They are Husky 's if you mean the ones in the Iditarod in Alaska. There are also Malamutes. And Samoyeds used as sled dogs.
Well, from the resources I looked in, it looked like Huskies are the most popular. They also use Malamutes or Mixed Breeds.
Alaskan Malamutes are known for attacking (and maybe even eating!) cats, so it's best not to keep them together.
The best way to find out is to try it!
Malamutes are probably the best at pulling weight; pit bulls/am staffs are the best fighters.
huskie
Mostly Siberian husky but sometimes a whole team of Alaskan malamutes WILL RUN. The faster of the two are the Siberian huskies but the Alaskan malmutes are alot more tougher and dont need alot of booties
Its for the best musher
