As part of the legal agreement to keep the Browns name, history, and franchise records in the city of Cleveland, the NFL promised Cleveland that they would establish another Browns franchise in Cleveland at some point in the future. It took about 4 years for the Browns to be re-established in Cleveland.

Where were the Browns located before they moved to Cleveland and what was the team name?

The current Cleveland Browns are an expansion team that entered the NFL in 1999. They replaced the Cleveland Browns that moved to Baltimore in 1996 and became the Ravens. That team began play in the All American Football Conference in 1946 as the Cleveland Browns and entered the NFL in 1950 as the Cleveland Browns. Cleveland has never had an NFL team move there from another city. But they have had two teams move to another city. As stated above, the Browns moved to Baltimore in 1996. There was another team in Cleveland, the Cleveland Rams, that began play in the NFL in 1937. That team moved to Los Angeles in 1946 and, eventually, to St. Louis in 1995.

What are the NFL Expansion teams?

Depends on when. Tampa Bay and Seattle were the first two, in 1976. Later, it was the Baltimore Ravens, Jacksonville, Carolina, Tennessee Titans (relocated from the former Houston Oilers), Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts (moved from Baltimore), Cleveland Browns again (reborn after owner moved team from Cleveland to Baltimore). That is, if you are not counting the AFL merger from 1970.

What other team did Cleveland have except the browns?

The St Louis Rams were originally founded in 1936 in Cleveland and played until 1946 when they moved to Los Angeles. Other teams that played in the old AFL and NFL of the 1920s and 1930s in Cleveland were the Indians, Tigers, Bulldogs and Panthers. Note that while the old Browns players and ownership did make a move to Baltimore, the records stayed in Cleveland and the team that moved was considered to be a new team which started play in 1996.
