Clean the leaves and rubbish from the bottom, clean the filtration system, clean out the leaf baskets, Make sure there is sufficient water in the pool to cover the static skimmer.

All pools are different after standing for a period of time so at this point I would take a

sample of pool water in a clean bottle from about an arms length down from the surface and take it to a pool shop where it can be tested and advice given depending on the results.

Pool start up SPECIAL SITUATIONS

In cold areas, you may have had your pipes drained and plugged. Remove them

Clean the debris from the top of the pool cover, then take of the pool cover. Clean the leaves and other debris from the bottom of the pool with a pool rake and scoop net. Don't use the pool vacuum to do this. Clean out the leaf basket behind the skimmer and the hair filter on the pump Scrub the pool walls to loosen of algae or anything else that has attached itself to the pool walls Top up the pool about 100mm above its normal level. The extra water will be needed when eventually vacuuming to waste By now the water in the pool should look pretty bad having had all this stuff stirred through It. The next step is to let it settle or if the water is very murky speed things up by using a flocculent (These are available at all pool shops and have instructions on them as well) Clean the basket in front of the pump & run some water down the pipe to the skimmer box to make sure it is clear & to make sure the pump is primed, ready to start.. Make sure the pump is working properly Then set the sand filter valve to waste position. (If there is flocculent in the pool the water must not run through the filter media.) Let the pump run for a minute and check that there are not any leaks in the systems that need looking at. If water comes out of the pump you may need to get a service person in to have a look t it. With every thing checked and working, connect your pool floor vacuum and gently lower it into the fine sludge at the bottom of the pool. This layer will be full of flocculent and all kinds of dust and algae and should be vacuumed to waste. It may be necessary to repeat this process in bad situations.

If the algae is still green on the walls & floor after brushing & vacuuming, then do as follows:

Check the pools Ph level, it should be 7.3

Add 3 pounds of Calcium Hyper chloride (powder chlorine) for every 10,000 gallons of water in your the pool by sprinkling it directly on to the surface so it sinks down the walls & down on to the algae on the floor. This will burn in to the algae & you can brush it again in 24 hours & top up the pool & vacuum to waste again.

(if you have a vinyl liner pool, then you will have to use 2gallons of liquid chlorine instead of the powder.) After you have finished vacuuming to waste, & and the pool is clear , set the valve to the backwash and run the pump until the backwash water is clear, then run it in the rinse position for 30 seconds.

Diatamaceous earth filters; Dismantle the filter tank & remove the internal filter pads & give them a good clean with a light brush & detergent, then rinse well in fresh water..

Check for damage in the pads when they are dry and repair) using fingernail polish. (Color does not matter). Put the pads back into the filter and set it to the filter position.

Mix the required amount of DE powder with water ready to pour in to the skimmer box after you start the pump. Cartridge filters; Remove the filter cartridge from the tank for a day or so in cartridge cleaner clean the cartridge with a high pressure hose, check it for damage and put it back together. Pool chemicals Get your local pool shop to test a sample of your pools water for the required chemicals Correct as follows:

set calcium hardness to 150 ppm Alkalinity next, should be 80-100 for fresh water pools or 120-130 for salt water pools. ph next set to 7.4-7.6 now you can add your chlorine.

Start the filtration system and run it for 24 hours and then go back to your normal running times.

Your local pool supply company can be of great help. Bioguard (as well as other product companies) has a three step maintance program for chlorine pools. Lookup their website and read about it. It's quite simple and it works.

Above ground pools have a bad reputation. People say that they are hard to keep clean and costly to repair and maintain. The truth is that any pool can be costly to maintain. The trick to minimizing cost and hard labor is preventative maintenance. Keeping a pool clean is much easier than trying to navigate the murky waters of dirt and algae. Once the pool water turns green, it’s a long road getting it back to crystal clear.

Above ground pool maintenance is a lot like chemistry. In fact, much of it is chemistry. Finding the right balance of algaecide and chlorine can be difficult for the novice. Read all chemical packaging carefully and only use enough product to treat the size of the above ground pool. Check warnings on pool shock package labels to make sure the product is safe to use on vinyl pool liners. Chemicals designed for concrete or fiberglass pools might damage and above ground pool line. This will result in headaches, heartaches and financial burdens down the road. Replacing an above ground pool liner is difficult and expensive.

If chemistry is not your best subject, consider instead a relatively new device for above groun

d pools. It’s called a salt water chlorinator, and it works in tandem with the pool filter to generate chlorine as the pool needs it. Simply add pool salt to the water and mix it in while running the pool filter. The salt water chlorinator will use the salt in the water to make chlorine. It’s a foolproof way to avoid over-chlorinating the above ground pool. Salt water chlorinators are relatively inexpensive, and they require very little salt per swimming season to maintain a healthy pool water balance.

Once the pool water is correctly chlorinated, a simple routine of skimming, vacuuming and keeping the filter clean will leave you with plenty of time to enjoy your above ground pool. Skim leaves and bugs from the water’s surface every time you use the pool. This prevents debris from settling on the bottom, which results in a shorter time spent vacuuming.

Above ground pools maintenance is no different from housecleaning or automobile upkeep. “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”

You know, having a pool is a lot of fun in the sun, and taking care of yourself is just part of it. But there's more to it than water chemistry and novelty floats with stunning cup holders. A pool is only half its potential if it's not a safe environment.

When's the last time you've taken a moment to think about the measures you're takingβ€”or maybe not takingβ€”to keep your family and friends safe around your pool? If it's been a while, there's no better time than now to amp up your safety pool by utilising Gold Coast pool inspection.

Actually, pool safety means a lot of stuff. It covers everything from the equipment you use to keep the pool area free of accidents, to how everyone in and around your pool acts, including you.

The worst-case scenario is drowning. It's also easy for people to slip and fall in an area that's often wet, potentially hitting their head or even breaking a bone on the hard pool deck. Lack of barriers, lack of supervision, and alcohol use are common causes of drowning and injuries.

This is the number one way for accidents and injuries to be prevented. One can't stress enough how crucial it is to pay attention when people are around your pool at all times. Having your eyes on multiple kids at once can be tough, especially if you're entertaining guests.

Remind all parents to be mindful of the kids in or around the water. Also, keep an eye on any intoxicated adults who might fall in or forget to be vigilant in party situations about supervising their own children.

If there are young children or weak swimmers in the pool, be sure that at all times there is a competent adult within the reach of the child's arm.

Be sure that anyone who uses your pool is aware of your rules and knows that everybody, especially children who will easily forget once they start splashing around and having a good time, will need reminders from time to time.

Get a licensed pool safety inspector to perform a formal inspection for a pool safety certificate in Robina (for peace of mind). There is no set amount for a pool safety inspector to conduct a full inspection and to issue a certificate or notification of non-compliance. However, it is recommended to get a few quotes before taking part in their services.
