Yes. Gillette Stadium now has an opportunity to host a Super Bowl now that we know that the 2014 superbowl will be held at Giants Stadium in NJ, Which is an outside stadium. It would only be fair now to allow all of the other outside stadiums the opportunity to host. And Im sure Robert Kraft has it in mind and will certainly push the issue.

You know how there is a possibility a team that has won a Superbowl by a score of 20 - 17 will host Superbowl 2017? And how the Patriots pulled off that upset over St.Louis in 2001? There's your answer. Foxboro will get their opportunity in 2017.

KC was scheduled to host the 2015 Super Bowl, contingent on the construction of a roof structure (the proposed roof would have been movable and shared between Arrowhead Stadium and adjacent Kaufmann Stadium, home of the Royals). However, the tax that was to have paid for this roof failed to pass, and Kansas City withdrew its bid to host the game. It's unlikely they will be chosen with the existing facilities.

The NFL is basically Not Interested in having the Super Bowl played in freezing or subfreezing weather, something that's a distinct possibility in Kansas City in January. Traditionally, they have only considered stadiums where the temperature on game day is anticipated to be at least 50 degrees Fahrenheit, OR where the stadium is enclosed by a roof. So far there's only been one exception to this (and it hasn't actually happened yet): the 2014 Super Bowl will be in Meadowlands Stadium, New Jersey. Apparently the enormous market (the New York City metropolitan area), comprised of people who are used to going to football games in the cold (both the Giants and the Jets play their home games at Meadowlands), was enough to overcome their reluctance.

Kansas City, on the other hand, as lovely a city as it is, is not a large market, and it can be downright cold in January. There are only 5 teams in the entire NFL with designated market areas smaller than Kansas City (Cincinnati, Jacksonville, Buffalo, New Orleans, Green Bay).

Probably not. The Super Bowl is almost always held either in an enclosed stadium or in a location where the expected temperature for the game is 50 degrees or above. Lambeau Field meets neither of these criteria, and is thus unlikely to be chosen to host the game.

Can a NFL team get home field advantage in the super bowl?

Yes, but not by how well they play but by the luck of the draw. Stadiums that are chosen to host a Super Bowl are selected four years in advance of the game they will host. Therefore, it is possible that a team could play a Super Bowl in it's home stadium. Super Bowl XLV will be held in the Cowboys Stadium, Super Bowl XLVI in the Colts stadium, Super Bowl XLVII in the Saints stadium, and Super Bowl XLVIII in the Giants/Jets stadium. If the Cowboys make the Super Bowl this year (2010), the Colts next year, the Saints two years from now, or the Giants/Jets three years from now they will, in essence, being playing a home game.
