Aluminum bats are lighter than wooden bats, and therefore allow for a faster swing which is known as bat speed. A faster bat speed will drive a ball further allowing one to hit more home runs or even allowing for a higher batting average because the ball is hit harder and faster.

One difference is the sweet spot size. On a wood bat the sweet spot is about 3 inches. On an aluminum bat it is about doubled. Another reason is that the way wood bats are made, they don't get as much pop as an aluminum. I personally like swinging wood more aluminum because you have to swing harder with wood, which would eventually allow you to hit the ball farther with aluminum.

Two reasons: 1. A wooden bat is more dense than an aluminum bat therefore it absorbs more of the energy of the ball and causes the ball speed coming off a wooden bat to be slower. 2. Wood has no maleability. In other words the aluminum gives a little when striking a ball and then reforms, like a spring.

an aluminum bat is better than a wooden bat because aluminum bats are lighter than wood bats which causes them to be able to be swung faster and stronger and hit the ball harder. plus, aluminum bats don't break :). aluminum bats also provide a pop off the bat and a trampoline effect created by its hollow material

The answer depends on your point of view.

Aluminum bats were adopted because they might save costs since, unlike wooden bats, they don't break. Due to their higher purchase price however, this is in some dispute, and some universities are moving back to using wooden bats.

However, aluminum bats have two negative effects on the game itself:

1. They take away the pitcher's strategy of throwing hard inside with the goal of breaking the bat.

2. They teach players that they can hit an inside pitch easily. This means that pitchers do not have good results throwing inside. As a result, many pitchers from universities have to spend time in the minor leagues to teach them how to throw inside effectively.

At first, aluminum bats produced a faster traveling ball when the ball was hit sharply, but modern aluminum bats can be tuned to almost perfectly mimic the response off of a wooden bat.

What type of bat will a baseball come off of better plastic aluminum or wooden bats?

baseballs come off an aluminum bat faster and harder, than they do on a wooden bat. that is why in the MLB they make the players use wooden bats, to prevent serious injury. i myself perfer to use and practice with a wooden bat in the off season, because it teaches you to use the right mechanics to hit the ball harder and farther. but during games i use an aluminum ball bat, and during practice i use a wooden bat. i would restrain from using a carbon-fiber bat because they have a tendency to crack and break. but that is just my opinion on carbon fiber bats.
