The last Phillies player to wear the #42 was P Toby Borland between 1994-1996. The number was retired by all MLB teams in honor of Jackie Robinson at the start of the 1997 season.

Other Phillies that wore #42 include P Dave LaPoint (1991), P Don Carman (1984-1990), P Ron Reed (1976-1983), and P Jim Nash (1972).

All the players in the May 16, 2009 night game between the Phillies and Washington Nationals are wearing #42.

MLB honored Jackie Robinson on April 15, the day of Robinson's first ever MLB game, by having all players on all teams playing wear the #42. The Phillies/Nationals game was rained out that day. The honor to Jackie Robinson was moved to the next series the Phillies played the Nationals.
