The three point shot has been around in some variation since the 1940s. However, the NBA didn't bring in the 3-pointer until 1979. Kevin Grevey of the Washington Bullets is credited with making the first three in NBA history.

∙ 12y agoOn November 29, 1980, Western Carolina's Ronnie Carr made history. The sophomore guard made a three-point shot from the left corner of the court with 16:09 to play in the first half. It was the first three-pointer made in NCAA Basketball history. Carr had missed his first three-point attempt approximately two minutes earlier in the game.
