∙ 13y agoThere is no official date when cheerleading (or any other sport) officially becomes a sport. For most sports that is just their founding date, which for cheerleading is 1898. But most sports don't evolve the way that cheerleading has. Football is mostly the same as it was in the 19th century. However cheerleading has gone from 10 college guys with megaphone shouting Rah! Rah! Rah! to a highly athletic activity performing complicated stunts ang gymnastics. There is still much controversy as to whether cheerleading is a sport. ESPN shows high school and all-star competitions (however they also show the national spelling bee.) Some states have ruled that cheerleading is a sport, but not all
