The origin of the slap shot is credited to Boom Boom Geoffrion, Bobby Hull and Andy Bathgate. Boom Boom was able to fire the puck up to 100 mph.The boom boom moniker came from a sports writer Charlie Boire on the Montreal Star in the late 40's to describe the thunderous slap shot.

I don't know if any one player actually invented the slapshot. However, Bernie "Boom Boom" Geoffrion of the Canadiens is credited with perfecting, using, and popularizing the slapshot in the 1950's.
