Babe Ruth learned to play baseball at St. Mary's Industrial School in Baltimore when he was 7 years old.
Babe Ruth made his Major League debut with the Boston Red Sox on April 11, 1914. He was sent down to the minors twice that year, and was also a pitcher for the 1914 Baltimore/Providence Grays, a double A team in the international League. In 1915 he was in the Majors for good, playing with the Red Sox until 1919, and was then sold to the New York Yankees. He would play with the Yankees from 1920-1934, and the Boston Braves in 1935.

∙ 14y agoBabe Ruth played in the Major Leagues for 22 years, and served as a coach for the Brooklyn Dodgers one year for a total of 23 years in Baseball. He played his first year for the Boston Red Sox in 1914. He played with Boston until 1919 when he was then sold to the Yankees. The Babe played with the Yankees from 1920 through 1934. In 1935 he returned to Boston, playing for the Braves for one year.

Did Babe Ruth play alongside Satchel Paige?
Paige was 11 years younger than Ruth, so by the time he was coming up, Ruth was going down. However, they did compete at least once in a barnstorming game. The great Buck O'Neal described it: I wish I could have been there when Babe Ruth pointed and hit the ball out of the ballpark in the 1932 World Series. I wish I could have seen that. But I did see something I admired just about as much, with Satchel Paige and Babe Ruth. This was in Chicago, after Ruth came out of the major leagues. He was barnstorming, playing with different teams, and he played us. Satchel was pitching and Ruth was hitting. Satchel threw Ruth the ball and Ruth hit the ball, must have been 500 feet, off of Satchel. Satchel looked at Ruth all the way around the bases and when Ruth got to home plate, you know who shook his hand? Satchel Paige shook Ruth's hand at home plate. They stopped the game and waited, he and Satchel talking, until the kid went out, got the ball, brought it back and Satchel had Babe Ruth autograph that ball for him. That was some kind of moment.
