How many wins a player would give a team as compared to

a replacement or minor league player at that position.

Different statistics are used for pitchers and position players.

Wins Above Replacement. I think WAR is kind of a stupid stat: if a player cannot play, how many more - or less, there is such a thing as "negative WAR" - games will that player win than a replacement called up from Triple-A ball? But the sabermetrics guys like it.
