There is a main difference between softball and Baseball. First... obvious softball is played with a bigger ball. SEcond, is that the pitcher pitches underhand in softball and over hand in baseball. Many people or at least guys believe that baseball is better than softball, its more traditional and has been around longer. WEll i tell you what, softball is just as hard if not harder than "baseball". Softball goes alot quicker too. Ok, let me refraise my self, fast-pitch softball is at least as hard if harder. However, slo-pitch softball is not hard ot play while it does require skill, it does not require fast hand eye coordination when hitting the ball. Someone who goes from hitting the ball at 60 mph+ some to hitting the ball at 20 mph or less will prob miss the ball 8 out of 10 times for swinging too fast. Thus concluding that there are major yet minor differneces between softball and baseball, and which one is better is up to you... just depends on basically what sex you are, or what you basic opinion of the matter is. I am not trying ot be sexist, just statin the facts.

The pitching for softball is always under hand. In baseball, the pitching is over hand. There is a fast pitch and a slow pitch in softball.

Well, for starters, softball uses a larger ball. You are also not allowed to "steal" bases in slowpitch-softball, but you can in fastpitch softball. Baseball pitchers throw overhand while all softball pitchers pitch underhand. Softball bats' barrels are also slightly larger. The first base in softball is a double-base so the first basemen and the batter don't interfere with each other whereas in baseball there is only a single base. The balls used in baseball, slowpitch and fastpitch are all different. Baseball uses the smallest ball, slowpitch uses 11" balls and fastpitch uses 12" balls.

essentially the games and rules are the same with a few differences. some softball is played with ten fielders the 10th usually being called a short center and playing between where the center fielder stands and where the 2nd base is placed.

there are obvious pitching rules (softball is underhand pitch and baseball has no rule requiring a pitch to be underhanded or overhanded)

another difference is that baseball players at all levels from local 9 yr old leagues to the MLB are required to wear a hat and to wear it bill forward while in the field and softball players do not have to do this (in some organized softball only the pitcher is allowed to not wear a hat or visor but most of the time no one has to).
