There are actually one in the same. There was never an orginial "model 98" only the custom series. The difference though would be found in the Tippmann 98 custom Platinum series with its easy to remove body.

No. The UMP grip uses push pins to attach to the x7. The 98 simply does not have holes to accommodate them.

Not on the basic, but i believe (someone please confirm me on this) on the pro and platinum they have rails. If they can boast a scope i do not know. Its also paintball so i dunno if scopes are needed
What happens if your velocity adjuster falls out of your tippmann 98 custom?
You can either find a bolt with the correct threading, or buy another one online or from a pro-shop. Otherwise, the Co2 usually stopped by the adjuster will shoot out of the side, lowering the velocity to around 200. It is safe to play with one, but you will be annoyed by the air out of the side and the low velocity.

Thread count is a textile term. however The pro carbine has A5 barrel threads.
Do all tippmann paintball guns have the same barrel threads?
No. The tippmann sl-74 I and sl-74II are threaded for sl-74. The tippmann pro-carbine is pro-carbine threaded. The Tippmann 98 is 2 different threads, they changed half way through production. An older barrel may not work on a newer gun because of tighter tolerances in the older stuff, but you can buy adapters if you happen to get into a jam like this. (Mostly you don't have to worry about this unless you get EXTREMELY unlucky) Tippmann a-5's are threaded for a tippmann a-5 adapter witch then screws into the gun. Tippmann x-7's are the same thread as a-5's. Hope this helps!
