No, Billy Ocean is not confined to a wheelchair. He is a British singer-songwriter known for his hits in the 1980s like "Caribbean Queen" and "Get Outta My Dreams, Get into My Car." It seems there may have been a misconception or confusion about his physical abilities.
I don't think its highlighted in the actual book - but Jacob does mention how his Mother died - and that was in a car crash.
I'm only guessing - but to me it seems that that would be an appropriate answer for Billy being in a wheelchair.
Then again, I could be completely wrong.
Hope this helped :)
The fastest manual wheelchair on flat ground are the times set in the paraolympics. The fastest downhill manual wheelchair speed is still pending. I have exceeded, and almost crashed at 45 plus MPH. This was back in 1979 using a modified Stainless Medical "Stainless Racer" wheelchair. Going down Pepper Hill Dr in San Diego County California

First of all, wheelchair basketball is way sicker than regular basketball. Aside from the fact that scientific studies have shown that wheelchair basketball players are consistently more attractive than their non-disabled counterparts, they also have way madder skills! Allen Iverson tried to D up on me one time, and now he's in a wheelchair too. Ooooooh snap!
There are many different types of wheelchair basketball teams. Some players on the Canadian wheelchair basketball team are Patrick Anderson, Chantel Benoit and Tara Feser.
Wheelchair basketball is basketball played by people in wheelchairs and is considered one of the major disabled sports practiced.
Wheelchair basketball retains most major rules and scoring of basketball, and maintains a 10-foot basketball hoop and standard basketball court. The exceptions are rules which have been modified with consideration for the wheelchair. For example, "travelling" in wheelchair basketball occurs when the athlete touches his wheels more than twice after receiving or dribbling the ball. The individual must pass, bounce or shoot the ball before touching the wheels again.
Wheelchair basketball, based on the sport of basketball, introduces some adaptations to reflect the use of the wheelchair in the game, and to harmonize the different levels of disabilities players have.
All teams which compete above a recreational level use a classification system to evaluate the functional abilities of players on a point scale of 1 to 4.5. Minimally disabled athletes are classified as a 4.5, and an individual with the highest degree of disability (such as a paraplegic with a complete injury below the chest) would have the classification of 1.0. In places where teams are integrated, non disabled athletes compete as either a 4.5 in Canada or a 5.0 in Europe. Non-disabled athletes are not allowed to compete internationally.
Classification is an international regulation for playing wheelchair basketball, where competitions restrict the number of points allowable on the court at one time. The five players from each team on the court during play may not exceed a total of 14 points you can also visit http://ryanfrancisco.posterous.com for more info about basketball.

Die, Monster, Die!
No the acter playing Artie in real life does not need a wheel chair. It is just for the show. They have had him shown on Glee without the wheel chair singing Safty Dance. One of the trvia coments on Glee's IMDB page is that TPTB keep trying to get the acter playing Artie to stop taping his foot while shooting because Artie is supposed to be paralized and would not be able to do that.
There are many benefits to using an electric mobility scooter as opposed to a regular wheelchair. By using an electric mobility scooter, a person would not have to use their arms to move the chair like they would with a wheelchair. Also, if needing to go a great distance, an electric scooter would be a better option than a wheelchair.
Of course there are. You can get wheelchairs of any width. There are wheelchairs that are built to go through the aisles of airplanes and they are very narrow. Without knowing the width of your doorway and the width of the person who will use the wheelchair it is difficult to advise you.
The narrowest wheelchairs are called transport wheelchairs. These are different from standard wheelchairs in that they have smaller and narrower rear wheels. If you are looking for the narrowest of wheelchairs start there. You can read more about the difference between transport and standard wheelchairs at the article below.
Cornwall England. By Richard Trevithick. Christmas eve 1801, the first time passengers were carried by steam loco.
As wide as a seat on any other kind of chair. They are generally 17" to 26" wide in the USA. They can be custom made in any width you want. The more costly models have titanium frames for less flex and a lot less weight.
George J. Klein invented the electric wheelchair.
US Medical Supplies offers AmeriGlide brand home stair lifts for wheelchairs for competitive prices, that may be reduced in price depending on your insurance coverage.
Generally, Ambulating means walking. However, using the arms to operate the wheelchair is often referred to as ambulation by the arm crank propulsion technique. Additionally, an acceptable definition of ambulate is "to move about", which is not specific to walking or use of limbs whatsoever.
You use a slide board. It's a board that's 9" x 3' smooth and tapered at the ends. Park the chair next to the bed, set the brakes, remove the arm of the chair nearest the bed. Insert the slide board under your leg, and the other end on the bed or the chair, depending on which way you're going. Set the height of the bed so that you're going slightly downhill, and scoot across the board.
A person can find a wheelchair hoist at Spinlife. When in the site, a person should go to the Wheelchair Lift Store, and pick out the lift that's appropriate for them.
It depends on what degree of help you need! If a patient is able to assist themselves even partially, pivot to a wheelchair. If a patient uses a sliding transfer board, assist the pt to use it. If a patient is too heavy or too ill for a 1 person lift or cannot assist, use a Hoyer lift.
With an electric wheelchair that they control with either their mouth or a special joystick that's positioned in a place where they can reach with with a "stump."
