Do you mean just slalom or all 3 events (slalom, trick, and jump). You can find the rules for all 3 events here http://www.usawaterski.org/pages/divisions/3event/2009AWSARuleBook.pdf In general, slalom is scored in points. It works a lot like track and field high jump in that you can select your starting point and if you make it you get credit for all the previous passes even though you didn't complete them, so you want to make sure the speed and line length you select to start you can complete. You will usually start out at 15 feet of a 75 foot rope at a given speed. Once you make it at that speed the boat will increase in speed until you hit the maximum (36 MPH for pros). Once you complete that the line length gets shorter. When you see something like "ran 28 off @ 36" that means you completed a pass at 36 MPH with 28 feet off of the rope. Completing a pass consists of entering the course through two buoys (called a gate). rounding 6 buoys (3 on each side of the boat). a point is awared for each buoy. 1/2 points are given by judges depending on where you drop after rounding a buoy if you don't complete the pass. You also must exit the course by passing through two buoys just like at the beginning.

How do you get up when water skiing?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The best way to get up on two skis is just to sit back in the water and let the boat pull you up. First what you do is you get in the water, then with your skies already adjusted to the right size put them on while floating. Once you have them on have them vertical in the water and put the rope inbetween the skie. When the rope is tight the boat will accelerate and just let it pull you up. Do not get up too early. If you do, the boat will not have enough speed and you will fall forward. Don't look down, always be looking just above the boat.

In addition to the operator, a competent observer must be in the boat in a position to observe the progress of the person being towed. A competent observer is a person who has the ability to assess when a skier is in trouble, knows and understands the water-skiing hand signals and is capable of helping a skier.

  • To prevent propeller-related accidents, turn off your engine before picking up any skier.
  • Skiing is prohibited between sunset and sunrise.
  • Skiers are also considered passengers and count in the boat's total capacity.
  • Personal watercraft are not permitted to tow more than one skier.
  • Skiers may start from the shore or dock if boat traffic permits. Skiers may not return to the shore or dock under power.
  • Installation of ski ramps and jumps requires a permit from the PA Fish & Boat Commission. Mooring or drifting within 100 feet of a ski ramp or jump while it is in use is prohibited.
  • Kite skiing and parasailing are permitted only on waters where unrestricted skiing is permitted.

How long should the rope be for slalom skiing?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The rope does not need to be any determined length. Just no that the longer the rope the harder and farther you can cut outside the wake which then allows you to cut hard back at the wake and get lots of air. A shorter rope will give you much more control though.
