How many movies can a 500 gb external hard drive hold?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

This question is far too general to be answered specifically, but I'll give it a shot! The short answer is... "It depends." The verbose answer is...

It depends primarily on the length and general quality, which directly affects the size, of each movie file you intend to store. For example if you have a 105 minute movie file that is the same resolution and encoded/compressed in the same manner and quality as a DVD movie (MPEG2) then you can count on each file being approximately 2.8GB in size. Using this as a baseline you should be able to store approximately 357 DVD quality movie files on 1TB of storage. However if you have files with a lower resolution (as is often the case in digital cameras and internet videos) or a higher compression ratio (as there is in MPEG4 files) than a standard DVD then you'll be able to fit more files onto the drive, quite possibly many, MANY more. Of course this means that if you have higher quality files, like HD movies, then you won't be able to fit nearly as many on to 1TB of storage.

In summary, the question you should be asking yourself is "What number, type and quality of files to I want to store?" Answering this will tell you whether you need a 16GB thumb-drive, a RAID-0 array of eight 2TB drives (16TB total storage) or, most likely, something inbetween.

I hope this helps, good luck and take care!

Can you save games onto a usb flash drive for an Xbox 360?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

As of April 6th 2010 there is an update which allows you to use USB Flash Drives to save content upon. Links are shown below with details of the update and the method to use a USB Flash Drive upon Xbox 360.

note to the above person this now works so yes you can!

Also it maxes out at 16 GB a drive. So it formats your external usb drive and puts 16 GB aside with 512 MB system data.So even if you connect a 250 GB,1TB drive it still will only allow the xbox 360 to use 16 GB.You can only use up to two usb drives at the same time. So about 32 GB total at the same time. Microsoft doesn't want people to use too much from a harddrive that's not theirs.

Can you save ps2 games in a usb drive instead of a memory card?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

If you mean, can you save, while playing a game, to flash drive instead of memory card, then the answer is NO. A PS2 game will always look for a memory card, usually in slot 1. You could always buy just 1 card, then use AR MAX or Codebreaker to transfer all the saves to flash drive for storage purposes. But you would need to transfer a save back to memory card if you wanted to play a saved game again.

Then what is is used for?!

User Avatar

Yes, it is possible to physically connect a USB Flash drive to the Wii using one of the two USB ports in the back. However, no official applications support a USB Flash drive currently. The Homebrew Channel, an unofficial softmod, is able to load homebrew applications from a Flash drive, and most homebrew now supports writing to it as well.

How do you open the pen drive using command prompt?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You can't work from inside the directories in your pen drive, but you can interact with the contents of the drive, for example "notepad G:\Text\textdoc.txt" will open textdoc.txt with notepad, you can view the contents of the drive with "dir G:"

edit: Actually typing "explorer G:" should open the drive like clicking "View Files" would. Replace G:\ with whatever Windows named your device.
