Where do liquids go after drinking?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Liquids you drink are first swallowed into your esophagus, which then carries them to your stomach. From there, the liquids are absorbed into your bloodstream through the walls of your intestines, providing hydration and necessary nutrients for your body's functions. What is the correlation between smoking and bladder cancer?

User Avatar

Asked by GaleEncyofMedicine

Smoking is a well-established risk factor for bladder cancer. There is a strong correlation between cigarette smoking and the development of bladder cancer, and individuals who smoke have a higher risk of developing this type of cancer compared to non-smokers. The correlation is particularly evident in long-term and heavy smokers.

Here are some key points regarding the correlation between smoking and bladder cancer:

Increased Risk: Smokers are several times more likely to develop bladder cancer compared to non-smokers. The risk is dose-dependent, meaning that the more cigarettes smoked per day and the longer the duration of smoking, the higher the risk.

Chemical Exposure: Cigarette smoke contains various harmful chemicals, including carcinogens (cancer-causing substances). One of the carcinogens found in cigarette smoke is benzene, which can be absorbed into the bloodstream and excreted in the urine. As urine passes through the bladder, these carcinogens can come into direct contact with the bladder lining, potentially leading to the development of cancer.

Role of Nicotine: While nicotine itself is not considered a carcinogen, it is the addictive component in tobacco. Nicotine, however, can contribute to the addictive nature of smoking, making it challenging for individuals to quit.

Mutagenic Effects: Smoking is associated with mutagenic effects, meaning it can cause changes in the DNA of cells. These genetic alterations may contribute to the transformation of normal bladder cells into cancerous cells.

Persistent Risk: The risk of developing bladder cancer decreases after quitting smoking, but it may take years for the risk to approach that of non-smokers. However, even former smokers continue to have a higher risk than those who have never smoked.

It's important to note that while smoking is a significant risk factor for bladder cancer, other factors, such as exposure to certain industrial chemicals, chronic bladder irritation or inflammation, and a family history of bladder cancer, can also contribute to the development of the disease.

Quitting smoking is one of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of bladder cancer and improve overall health. If someone is concerned about their risk or needs support in quitting smoking, consulting with a healthcare professional or seeking assistance from smoking cessation programs can be beneficial. Regular medical check-ups and screenings may also be recommended for individuals with specific risk factors.

What is meant by bladder cancer?

User Avatar

Asked by GaleEncyofMedicine

Bladder cancer is a type of cancer that starts in the cells of the bladder, which is a hollow, muscular organ located in the lower abdomen. The bladder's primary function is to store urine produced by the kidneys until it is expelled from the body through the urethra.

The most common type of bladder cancer is urothelial carcinoma, also known as transitional cell carcinoma, which begins in the cells lining the inside of the bladder. However, other types of bladder cancer, such as squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma, can also occur, although they are less common.

The exact cause of bladder cancer is often unclear, but certain risk factors may increase the likelihood of developing the disease. These risk factors include:

Smoking: Tobacco smoke is a significant risk factor for bladder cancer. Smokers are more likely to develop bladder cancer than non-smokers.

Age: The risk of bladder cancer increases with age, and the majority of cases occur in older individuals.

Gender: Men are more likely to develop bladder cancer than women.

Exposure to Certain Chemicals: Occupational exposure to certain chemicals, such as those used in the dye, rubber, leather, and textile industries, may increase the risk of bladder cancer.

Chronic Bladder Inflammation: Chronic irritation or inflammation of the bladder, often due to recurrent urinary tract infections or the long-term use of a urinary catheter, may increase the risk.

Prior Cancer Treatment: Previous cancer treatments, such as radiation therapy or certain chemotherapy drugs, may increase the risk of bladder cancer.

The symptoms of bladder cancer can include blood in the urine (hematuria), frequent urination, pain or burning during urination, and pelvic pain. However, these symptoms can also be caused by conditions other than bladder cancer.

Diagnosis typically involves a combination of medical history, physical examination, imaging studies (such as CT scans or ultrasounds), and diagnostic tests like cystoscopy and biopsy. Treatment options for bladder cancer may include surgery, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and radiation therapy, depending on the stage and type of cancer.

As with any cancer, early detection and intervention can improve outcomes, so individuals experiencing symptoms or at higher risk due to certain factors should seek medical attention promptly.

When does phimosis go away?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

For men and boys with a tight foreskin that can not retract off the head, a condition known as phimosis, the skin can usually be stretched to comfortably slide on and off the head. Stretching the foreskin works in about 9 out of 10 cases, making circumcision rarely necessary. When trying to stretch your foreskin, the most important thing to realize is to do it very slowly. It will take months to acheive results. You will want to gently place a finger or two into the opening of your foreskin and gently apply continuous pressure. Make sure you do not feel pain. Pain indicates you are causing damage to the foreskin. For 15 or 30 minutes every day, gently stretch the opening of the foreskin and apply a topical steroid cream twice a day. It is important to do it every day or even a couple times of the day. Just make sure you are not causing any pain, tearing or bleeding. You may enjoy pulling and stretching the foreskin while you masturbate. The most important thing is to do it consistently every day. Using a topical steroid cream is essential when stretching. You should apply it to the tight part of the foreskin inside and out twice a day. It's also good to apply the cream while you stretch.

Betamethasone cream 0.05% works the best, but it is only available by prescription from a doctor. If you are unable to go to a doctor, hydrocortisone cream 1.0% is available without a prescription at any drug store. Also, it is important to never force the foreskin back over the head. If the foreskin becomes stuck behind the head while you are hard, then is called paraphimosis. If the skin gets stuck back while you are hard and you can not get the foreskin back over the head, this is a medical emergency, and you must go to an emergency room immediately. Failure to have paraphimosis treated can cause serious permanent damage to the penis. Here is a summary for how to stretch your foreskin: 1) Do it every day for 15-20 minutes twice per day. The more time you spend stretching it the faster it will work.

2) Go very slowly. Stretch it firmly, but don't make it hurt. If you feel pain, soreness, or have bleeding or irritation, stop for a while. If you feel pain, you're stretching it too hard. 3) Use betamethasone cream 0.05% or hydrocortisone cream 1.0%. Apply twice a day to the tight part of the foreskin. Applying the cream while stretching works well.

4) Never force your foreskin back. You don't want it to get stuck behind the head. That is paraphimosis, and it requires immediate emergency medical attention. 5) Be patient! It may take months for you to get your foreskin stretched enough to move on and off the head easily, but once it does, it will stay like that for the rest of your life. And even though it takes a long time to stretch, its way better than getting circumcised, which requires getting your foreskin cut off, is painful, and makes your penis less sensitive to sexual pleasure. You'll be happy with your foreskin if you take the time to patient stretch it. Good luck!

Why does tea make you pee?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Tea doesn't make you urinate any more than any other drink containing water does.

Whether you drink a 200ml glass of water or a 200ml mug of tea, you'll urinate the same amount.

How much you urinate depends on how much you drink and how much of what you drink isn't absorbed by your bloodstream.

Some caffeinated drinks can cause contractions to the bladder giving you the feeling that you desperately need to urinate, when in fact you don't. Therefore coffee would make you feel the need to urinate more than tea.

Under normal circumstances, drinking water is not dangerous to your health and is, indeed, beneficial to your health. However, if you drink an extremely excessive amount of water, that can harm your health or even kill you, and if the water you are drinking is contaminated with toxic pollutants or with germs, that too can be dangerous to your health.
