Since that data does not exist any answer provided by the participants of this site would only be opinion based and not a substantial answer.

How did Tom Hanks lose weight for his role in Castaway?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The film was shot in two parts. After his "fat half", he took an entire year off to change his physical appearance. He started on a very strict diet - fish, vegetables, very little carbohydrates, only water, etc. He would also do all types of cardio for about 2 hours a day, 6 days a week. Another thing, he actually developed an infection from a sore on his knee during the first part of the shoot, and had to undergo emergency surgery. The Doc told him that if truly had been alone on a deserted island - he would have died in 5 weeks. I guess the movie left that part out of it.

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

No, he had a seeming well established girlfriend, but they were not married. In the beginning of the movie they're having dinner together with a bunch of people, and one of the men asks Chuck (Tom Hanks) when he's going to make an honest women of Kelly (Helen Hunt). This implies that no, they were not married at the beginning of the movie. Later Kelly is married to another man, so she and Chuck do not get back together.

In the movie saving private Ryan Tom Hanks lets the German pow leave blind folded is that the same German soldier who runs up the stairs and takes a knife and stabs the us soldier?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

This question has been discussed in several WW2 Forums and the concensus is No, he was not the same German. Reasons to think he was the same man is due to the fact that they look the same and have the same short hair cut and the American translator shoots him at the end of the last battle. However, many German soldiers had short hair cut and would have looked the same. I think one movie fan noticed a difference of uniform between the German PW and the German who had the knife fight. Also, you will notice that the German PW was beaten before he was blind-folded and was bleeding from at least 2 places on his head. The 2nd German was not bleeding except from the hand-to-hand fight, which left a bloody ear. I think the reason he was shot at the end was because this was the German who shot Capt. Miller. Answer is No.
