Why do the Texas rangers do the antler sign?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

When a player does something connected to speed - such as stealing a base, or beating out a ground ball/triple - they make the antler sign to show they have speed, e.g., the Bengie Molina triple.

The claw, on the other hand, is a symbol of power, e.g., when Nellie Cruz brings out the Boom Stick.

The 'claw' represents a far away high five for a strong offensive play. While the 'antlers' come from 'run like a deer' after a stolen base or good base running.

Who were the original Texas Rangers?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

A Texas ranger was a young man, usually in his early 20s, who guarded the frontier for the settlers from Indian raids in the 1800s. The Indians believed that the land was rightfully theirs, so they fought the settlers who built their homes there. The Texas Rangers defended these settlers from the raids. Eventually the Indians were pushed off to reservations in exchange for the US to provide them with food and supplies. this was formed from the Medicine Lodge treaty.

Hope that helped :)

P.S. The Texas Rangers are also a baseball team in Texas
