Roller Skating

Roller skating is like ice skating but you’re on four wheels, not blades. You don’t need ice like ice skating, you just use any smooth floor. There’s only two basic varieties on skates: quad roller skates and inline skates, also known as blades, though some have experimented with a single-wheeled "quintessence skate" or other variations on the basic skate design.

How many calories do you loose by roller skating for 5 hours?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It really depends on a number of factors. There are thinks such as body weight, normalcy (how often you do it), the speed at which you go, and general physical condition that all tie into how many callories you burn. For the avg. person weighting around 150lbs, averaging 10 mph it would be a little more than 500 calories per hour. Someone who weighs about 120lbs would only burn about 300 calories and someone who weighs 200lbs would burn about 650.

Can you replace roller skate wheels with skateboard wheels?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You start by rolling up a ramp and going back down or just plain rolling fakie

Next you set up your feet with one centered on nose and other about 1 inch or so in front of bolts

apply pressure with foot on nose of board and spin your body at the same time, this trick does not require board spin, remember where your head goes your body will follow

-or-

just get going fast fakie and quickly slide your body around in a jerking motion without applying pressure to make that skidding sound revert

What are the learning steps in roller skating?

User Avatar

Asked by Prian2000

First, you should get a good size. It's great if it's a little big, so when your size gets bigger, you can still wear them. Practice in an open area. You should have a movement kind of like slightly lunging forward, and turning can be pretty easy. Its much easier to have someone help you for the first time.

If you are good at roller skating are you good at ice skating?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Not necessarily, though you may have a bit of an advantage in learning over someone who's never skated at all. One of the big issues is the same as that between roller skating and roller blading: skates automatically remain vertical; blades want to tip over to the side.

How do you do roller skating tricks?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It starts with 2 teams on an oval track. There are 4 blockers for each team on the track at the same time, 1 of each teams blockers being a pivot, the jammer's (scorers) main helper. The first whistle blows and the pack takes off. Second whistle blows and the jammers take off. The aim for the jammers is to make it through the pack before the other jammer does. If they get through first, they are the lead jammer. This means they can call off the jam (a fancy term for stopping it) if they get tired, the other jammer is catching up or any other reason they might have. A jam is 2 minutes or until it is called off. Each blocker the jammers pass the second time around of the opposing team, they get a point. Obviously, to win, you are the team with the most points.

What are the two main roller skates?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

This would depend on how you plan on using them. If you are just a recreational skater and will use them occasionally for leisure, then Roller Derby and Chicago. If you are using them for a specific purpose then you would likely be looking for a Riedell, Vanilla, or Pacer skate.

What is the best brand of roller skates?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Riedell is a great brand, I really like them. I bought some Riedell Wicked skates for roller derby and they rock. What type skates are you looking for? There are so many types: Speed skates, classic, derby, in line ect...

If you are buying skates for hard use I would suggest leather boots and aluminum plates because they are a tried and true combo but can cost a bit more. If you are just going to roller skate casually then you can get by with man made boots and nylon or plastic plates (though they tend to wear out much faster) they cost less. Also your wheels will come into play, are you outdoor or indoor? Speed skates have lower profile wider wheels for taking sharper turns and grip. It just really depends on what type of skating you are going to do. You can search roller skates on google or any search engine and check some stores out, some stores have comment sections that help to get an idea if the skate is good or not. I hope that helps! Good luck and keep rollin'!
