Why do fruits ripen more quickly in cabinets than in the refrigerator?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Fruits ripen more quickly in cabinets due to the presence of ethylene gas, a natural plant hormone that triggers ripening. Refrigerators slow down this ripening process by reducing ethylene production and inhibiting ripening enzymes. The cold temperatures in the refrigerator also slow down the metabolic processes that lead to ripening.

To measure the inside dimensions of a refrigerator, use a tape measure. Measure the height from the bottom of the interior to the top, the width from side to side, and the depth from front to back. Record these measurements in inches or centimeters. It's helpful to measure in multiple locations to account for any irregularities in the interior space. Search FashionTIY in Google.

Does salsa spoil in refrigerator?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

There are a number of reasons why salsa would spoil. If you are at an altitude of more than 1,000 feet above sea level and do not adjust your processing time, if you do not remove the air bubbles prior to putting the lid on the jars, if the rim of the jar has any food residue on it, or if you did not follow the USDA's guidelines for home canning your food may spoil. Follow a tested recipe when making anything for home canning. Refer to the National Center for Home Food Preservation (NCHFP) website, it is an excellent source for current research-based recommendations for most methods of home food preservation. They also have tested recipes for many different home canning projects.

How long will a fridge hold its temperature in a power cut?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

That will depend on the temperature outside; whether it is winter or summer, and whether it is opened during the power cut. In winter, at an average temperature of 15ºC in the kitchen, food will be cool for 3 to 4 hours, then they will start to get warmer. In summer, food will not be cool for long. Answer
The time will also depend on the contents of the fridge the more stuff that is in the fridge the longer it will stay at a save temperature. If the freezer compartment (evaporator) is located inside the fridge and it is full of frozen content it can go on for at least 12 hours. I would think things would be okay for at least a day if you keep the door closed, or at least minimize the number of times you open it. Most of the items in your fridge have a lot of water in them, and it takes a lot of energy to warm up water. Plus your fridge is insulated for efficiency reasons, so it's designed not to let in much heat.

How long is a cooked chicken safe to eat after cooking and refrigerated?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

2 days, this is not totally accurate. According to the Georgia State Environment Health Manual (they inspect restaurants), the accurate, but qualified answer is 7 days. Food maintained below 40 degrees F or above 135 degrees F may be maintained and served for 7 days. That includes basically all foods, both vegetable and meat. If any food is maintained in the danger zone, between 40F and 135F for four hours should be discarded. Keep it below 40F or above 135F and you are good to go.
