How do you change the starter in a 1996 Nissan Sentra?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

First you will need to know what the starter looks like, you can look it up online, and it will help you identify it better than my description would. Place the car in neutral and rock it back and forth to make sure the abendix is not engaged to the flywheel. Now, engage your parking brake. Jack up the vehicle and place it on jack stands to avoid a hydrolics problem (and also a death problem) in case your jack gives way. Disconnect the negative battery cable. If you have the four cylinder k24de block motor, you should also disconnect the positive terminal. Next get under the car, I believe I remember that one being on the driver's side, and disconnect the positive and negative wires from the solenoid. Look closely and identify all the bolts that mount the starter to the frame and motor. Then you can unbolt it and you will have to maneuver the starter around until it comes out of the frame supports. Remember what position it was when it finally comes out, because it will make it easier to put your new one in in the same direction and maneuver it in the opposite manner to line up your bolt holes.bolt in your starter and reconnect the wires. You should then reconnect your battery, and start the car. Don't lower the car yet, you may not have solved your problem it has been misdiagnosed. Hope this has been helpful. Jody

How many holes does a putt putt have?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It depends on what you mean by a golf game. If you are referring to the PGA, then it's 72, since the game isn't over until the 72nd hole. The previous 4 "games" are called "rounds". If it's a Sunday afternoon on the course with the boys/girls, then it's probably 18 holes. Especially if there is alcohol involved.

Is there a bolt that goes the opposite direction in a Nissan Sentra transmission filter and if not why would one take 15 minutes to come out and won't tighten?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

A bolts failure to tighten could be caused by either the threads being stripped on the bolt, which would be obvious, or the threads in the bolt hole being stripped which would be hard to check. If the bolt is threaded to turn in the opposite direction (left hand threads) that would also be obvious. You could try chasing the threads in the bolt hole then see if the bolt would tighten, or try a new bolt of the same size. This could also be dependent on the material that was drilled and threaded for the bolt. I own a Nissan, but have not had an opportunity to work on the transmission. My answer is based on generic knowledge I have of fasteners. Hope this helps.

Answerone of the bolts in the filter has a nut on it. If you get the bolt out then the nut will be loose in the transmission unless you get it out. I got the bolt out and the nut but I can't get the nut back in place to replace the bolt. Not enough room to put the nut where it goes!~!!! Any help would be great. I might just leave it out...... AnswerYes, there is a nut and washer on the bolt. It goes into what is called the control valvue assembly. It is really a bad design IMO, but is done simply because this filter is rarely if ever in need of service. In order to repair it correctly, you must remove the "Control Valve Assembly". At this point you can replace the nut and washer back onto the bolt that you removed when replacing the filter. Very few parts houses tell you unless you ask that this is necessary when replacing the filter. In most cases simply spray carb cleaner on the filter while it is still in place and allow to drip dry with some bloding.

Just to add to the last entry - LEAVE THE FILTER IN PLACE - I made the same mistake many others have, and tried replacing the filter. Anyway, if you're at the point of no return, be very careful taking out the valve body, as the small stainless check-balls will fall out, which also happened to me. Luckily, I scavenged them from a parts car. A friendly Nissan parts guy gave me a copy of the valve body layout and where each of the various length bolts and check balls go. A nightmare, but I would advise against leaving the lose nut in the transaxle.

Where are the bolts located for the starter on a 1991 Nissan Sentra?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I have a 94 Nissan sentra but it's the same body style. My starter is located right below all the air intake hoses. the easiest way to find the starter is to take the airbox stuff out and then follow the ground wire from the negative end of the battery (the only wire leading off the negative end) to where it attatches to the transmission. The bolt that that wire attatches to is one of two bolts that attatches the starter to the transmission.

You have to slip a plastic strap used for banding skids, etc. through the window and wrap it around the door lock. Pull it tight and up at the same time. This will unlock the door. Do not pry to hard on the window when you slide the strap down the window to the lock.

Here is a great website to guide you through your 1994 Nissan Stereo installation it even has step-by-step pictures: http://www.installdr.com/InstallDocs/Nissan/PDF/647033.pdf Remember you probably have to get a diversity antenna. I didn't realize that until I had everything installed and tried to turn the stereo on and nothing happened. Even though I had the power hooked up nothing came on. I had to make a quick drive to the Car Stereo Store and get the diversity antenna, then everything worked fine.

Where is the starter located on a 1989 Nissan Sentra?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I do believe, after just locating myself, that the starter for a 1989 Nissan Sentra is located on the back, lower-half of the engine itself. It's a small, inconspicuous part. To find it easier on this, and all other vehicles, just follow the positive cable line that comes off of your car's battery. It will eventually lead to the starter. (Be careful, there are other cables delivering electric to other areas of the vehicle, i.e. headlights, turn signals, etc. The starter cable will be one main bundle and will lead to an auto part, not an accessory.) Once you find the starter, and before any repairs are made, try light-to-medium tapping on the starter with a heavy metal tool (wrench, hammer, etc.) The fact that you have to do this indicates you need a new starter but, hey, 9 times out of 10 it'll get the car started. -Anonymous

Why are my brake lights on 1995 Nissan Sentra staying on?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It sounds like the brake light switch might be bad, or sticking. ANOTHER SIMPLE SOLUTION TYO CHECK FIRST: Before you go getting the brake switch replaced you should check for a simple and inexpensive solution. This simple and inexpensive solution is probably the cause and very common on these cars. There are two small brake pedal stoppers that snap into the brake pedal. If they are not in place, the switch cannot be depressed and the lights stay on. Very easy to fix. Buy the parts and snap them into the two small holes. Pick up or order these parts from your Nissan dealer. 2 of 46584-S0100 = $1.76 each .

How do you tell if the water pump on 97 Chrysler LHS is not working?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

1. Most, if not all, water pumps have a 'weep' hole that allows water to leak out when the shaft bearing becomes worn. This hole is generally located at the top of the water pump where the shaft passes out to the fan. If water is leaking out then replace the water pump. 2. A definite loud squealing coming directly from the water pump shaft area is an 'indicator' that the pump is going bad. The squealing is caused by the rotating shaft creating friction against the shaft bearing - something that should not be occuring. If you are just using water in your system then you may be able to prolong the life of the pump by adding the correct amount of anti-freeze. 3. The water pump has vanes (fins) that move the water in the desired direction. I have seen them corroded away - not a common occurance. You can remove the radiator cap on a COLD engine and then start the engine (make sure the removed cap will not become a missle by dropping to the fan). When the engine warms to operating temperature the water thermostat will open permitting the moderate flow of water from the engine and through the radiator. Usually you can see this flow past the radiator cap hole. If the hole is to the side of the radiator you may not see the flow but will be able to feel the warmer, and soon to be hot, water by briefly touching the outside of the radiator tank. (Keep hands and other objects away from the fan!!!) If the flow is not visibly pronounced it may be a sign of worn/corroded vanes. The only real way of telling for sure is to remove the water pump and look. Again, this is not a common occurance. 4. An over-heating engine may be caused by a stuck water thermostat or even an old (usually lower) radiator hose that is collapsing. Some of these hoses come with a spiral of metal, that looks like a spring, that runs along the inside to prvent the collapse.

Very easy to replace. The TPS is located on the throttle body. It is held by a couple of screws and has a wire connector (3 wires). Does the price from the dealer include the TPS? Do it yourself and save the money.

Where is the neutral safety switch on 1991 Nissan Sentra 1.6?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Depends on the transmission. If the car is a stick shift then the switch is at the back of the clutch peddle. Its a little plunger found just behind the top part of the peddle. If the car is an automatic then the switch is usually on the shifter. I'm not positive of this specific application though. You'll need to remove the shifter bezel off the console to access it...

It is one of three things. A) Spark Plugs B) Fuel Pump C) Vaccum Hose It's most likely the plugs, but could very easily be a fuel pump. Vaccum hoses rarely go out but it very well could be a compression problem.
