1. Originally, (over 5,000,000,000 gallons) about 2 trillion liters of water per hour flowed over the edge of Niagara Falls. Put another way, 35,000,000 gallons of fresh water per minute roared over the edge of this natural wonder of the world. Half of this great water volume is diverted (at night and during the off season) for hydro-electric power generation by the governments of Canada and the United States. Niagara Falls is the largest producer of hydro-electric power in the world at this time. Currently, the twinning of hydro tunnels beneath Niagara Falls Ontario will allow for the diversion of more than 3/4 of the water flow when construction is complete. That means, at night (and during the off-season) a person could very well WALK across the river.
2. Niagara Falls is NOT one of the Seven Wonders of the World as many believe it to be. However, it IS the Honeymoon Capital of the World.
The flow rate fluctuates quite a bit and you were unspecific about the time period. Suggest you consult the USGS site for current and historical information:

very very loud, depending on how close you are. If you are on the boat, you can barely hear anyone next to you. Even if you are at the top, you have to yell to be heard. You can feel the noise thunder around you and feel the rumbleing of the ground as millions of gallons of water goes over the falls. Over all, a fun experience
Niagara Falls is between the countries of the United States of America and Canada.

you could cycle which would add 23miles to the journey (510) but it would only take two days

It is because the the person has a certain amount of energy when he is falling. He has to dissipate all of the energy to come to a stop. The amount of energy absorbed by the contact is equal to the Force times the Distance. The sand allows the person to sink into it when he hits it so the sand requires less Force. When the person hits concrete he does not sink in very a very far distance (in fact it is the person that takes most of the deforming) and so it requires a much greater force to absorb the energy.
If you want to visit Niagara falls, you should wear heavy clothing, ( a water resistant jacket, long sleeve shirt, long pants, such as jeans or gym pants, and old shoes) that is casual but that you don't wear alot. Depending on the wind conditions, you might want to wear an extra layer of clothing. Hope this helped! :)
