What team has the most goals in one game?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

unless someone knows otherwise, the most goals that have been scored during a 5 minute power play was 4, and it was by the Toronto Maple Leafs against the Atlanta Thrashers on Jan 7 2011.

On a side note, the Los Angeles Kings have the most famous multiple goal power play. It happened during game 6 of the 2012 Stanley Cup Finals against the New Jersey Devils. Although they only scored 3 goals during this power play, it was a major turning of the tide for LA, as they had lost the previous 2 games to New Jersey. It was that power play that lead the Kings to their first Stanley Cup win!

Which team is better islanders or rangers?

As of 12/26/2009, the Islanders hold an all-time record of 101-103-22 against the Rangers. So, in that essence, the Rangers are the 'better' team by winning two more games than the Isles in all of the times that they have played each other. However, when you look at the bigger picture, you will start to see some interesting stats pointing to the Isles as being the better team.

Both teams have 4 Stanley Cups, the ultimate trophy in the NHL.

The Rangers won the cup in 1928, 1933, 1940 and 1994. 3 of the 4 cups won by the Rangers were when there were only SIX to TEN teams to compete against, fewer games in a playoff round and fewer playoff rounds in total. After the NHL expanded the league the Rangers did not win a cup again for 54 years!

The Islanders won the cup four years in a row in 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983. There were more teams (21 in 1980) and more playoff rounds with more playoff games in each round. The Islanders are the only American team to have won four consecutive championships in a row and are the last (as of now) professional sports team in history to do so.

In summary, the Rangers have won 4 cups in 86 years and the Isles have won 4 cups in 36 years. Being it took the Islanders less than half the amount of time it took the Rangers to win their cups, coupled with the fact that the Islanders won theirs in a more competitive era than the Rangers won their first 3 makes the Isles the better team.

What players on the new york islanders wore number 39?

Asked by Wiki User

Jersey number 39 has been worn by several players of the New York Islanders since 1988. Hubie McDonough wore 39 from 1989 to 1992. Travis Green, who has since played for six other NHL teams, took the number after McDonough and wore it until leaving the Isles in 1998. Marc Bergevin, Sean Haggerty, Dean Malkoc, Scott Pearson, and Ray Schultz each donned 39 for one season between 1988 and 2001. The most notable player to wear the jersey is current player Rick DiPietro. On September 12, 2006, the goaltender signed a 15-year, $67.5 million contract with the organization, a move that likely made him a lifetime Islanders player.

Who is the greatest fighter in New York Islander history?

User Avatar

Asked by Herb123

Simply put...Clark Gillies. Gillies established himself as a fighter during his junior years and carried a reputation with him in to the NHL as a very tough and good fighter. He played from the early 70's through the mid 80's for the New York Islanders and his last year with the Buffalo Sabres. He was strong and tall and many of his fighting victories began to be spoken about throughout the National Hockey League during his first few years in the NHL.

He defeated Flyers tough-guy George Shultz in such an overwhleming manner that he became known as the heavyweight champion of the NHL. His bouts with Terry O'Rielly in the 1979-80 playoffs are also well known. Gillies has been known to say that he never went out looking for a fight, but didn't back away from fighting either. He allowed his reputation to carry the burden, in a similar manner as a father giving the "look" to his son where the fear of punishment was all that was needed.

Also need to mention that he broke Ed Hospadar's face with one punch. You Tube it.
