Laos or Lao PDR is in South East Asia, It is only landlocked country in the ASEAN countries. It is near China to the north, Thailand to the west, Burma to the north west, Vietnam to the east and Cambodia to the south.

90% the main source of grain for breakfast will be a couple of handfuls of sticky rice a person. Fried dried meats, dried fish, and sometimes egg would be be served with it. A light/thin pork or chicken based broth is sometimes served with breakfast.

The Lao traditional cuisine is centered around rice. For farmers, they tend to stick to sticky (glutinous) rice as that keeps them full while they're working. They would typically have a salted fish or meat dish, vegetable, rice and a jaeow- which is a type of thick dipping sauce of which there are many varieties.

For Lao people living in a city like Vientiane, which is the capital. The possibilities are endless. In recent years, some very good European restaurants have opened up and its even easier to find great south east Asian food such as "nam neung" from Vietnam, "gang ped" from Thailand, wonton egg noodles.

Last year, an American style pizza place opened up and its been very popular with the locals.

General Vang Pao had took the offer and entered us in war. The Americans had supplied us weapons and we took the offensive. After the war was over, the vietnamese were mad at the Hmong for betraying the Laotion Gov. We were at war and the president didn't keep his end of the deal. He left the Hmong to fend for themselves with little protection. We were forced to hide in the jungles and flee to Thailand. Only a few Hmong had escaped to America thanks to General Vang Pao. My parents were some of the few that fled to America. So today, we still fight and live in fear. This is the Hmong people...
