Theoretically 35, however since noone has ever reached past 33 (!0th Dan Black Belt or Red Belt), it is widely believed that there are 33. Probably the 10th Dan will never be passed in respect of Kano.

Notes: These include childrens rank and stripe system, and then move to the adult system for bworn, black and red belts.

Is judo an individual or team sport?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You can generally have any number in a team. Competitors are rotated on a team for each show to allow everyone a chance to participate. An average team will have around 8-14 people.

For example, on an Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) team, the number of members can range from a dozen to 100! Usually there is a point squad that members compete to be a part of, and it is this group of riders that contribute to overall team points.

How old do you have to be to take judo?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Jet Li said in an interview, that, assuming you are healthy enough for vigorous activity, there is no real age limit to begin martial arts training. However he also said, if you are interested in competing, you have to start early, the earlier the better, namely, between 5 and 12. This is not unique just to Wushu; boxing champs and coaches from the 1930s' until now, are in general agreement, most guys who went on to become great champs, all started fighting from very early on. Not necessarily golden gloves mind; but having rough lives. It really depends on what you want to get out of it, according to the opinions of top ranking martial arts athletes, and prize fighters; if you are just doing it for a hobby, to get in shape, personal growth etc, then it doesn't matter. Same thing if its for self defense because of the adage, rather, the belief that "the guy ready for trouble is always a better fighter than the guy looking for it." What that means is, even if you are only an average person, you'll still be a better fighter than most people who unfairly attack you. A person who goes around wanting to hurt people for no reason other than convenience or survival, it means their life is extremely messed up, they have no real discipline or control, which makes any average individual studying self defense seriously a "better fighter" than them. That is what that cliche means, generally. Again, no real age limit if your ambitions are modest, however if you have a son or daughter and your ambitions are high for them, the earlier the better. Of course the age thing is not always true; Chuck Norris began his martial art at 19, and he went on to become world champion. Of course, all Chuch Norris ever did during his early 20's, was work and train, and that's it. Being a conservative Texan, Norris is one of those "110%" people.

In judo what colour belt follows yellow?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

There is not another color in most styles of Judo. Karate has different colors for some of the higher dan grades after black.

AnswerActually, the highest Judo rank is one which has never been awarded. 12th Dan. This is a double wide white belt. Double wide to distinguish it from the white belt of a beginner. The 12th Dan will have come full circle. Black belt (Dan) ranks start with black (1st - 5th). 6th - 8th also wear black belts, but may wear a red and white belt, but usually do so only for special occasions. Finally, traditional Judo ranks conclude with 9th and 10th Dan and that person wears a red belt. Not many 9th Dans have been awarded and only a handful of 10th Dans have been awarded by the home of Judo the Kodokan in Tokyo. However, countries other than Japan have their own national governing bodies and they may award rank as well. There are more 9th and 10th Dans awarded through these channels, but they are still EXTREMELY rare. A 12th Dan has never been awarded and it symbolizes perfection.

In Judo a student (Judoka) is measured against themselves as much or more than they are measured against others. A belt is most appropriate to hold the jacket closed, but also gives other players an idea of the skill level of the Judoka. Players of the same rank are presumed to be of the same general skill if they wear the same color belt.
