I don't think so, thats a pretty awful card.

Newest intel graphics are better.

But, you can upgrade it to a gt 230m which is a lot better.

Toshiba part number is V000190390. Make sure you get the right part, you'll also need some cooling paste.

I don't actually think you can, if you could, i'd be surprised because you need a graphic card to play most games becasue then the computer would not recognise the game resolution and crash 247, or the graphics will be very laggy and blurry, i dont reccomend it, Just buy a graphic card then try it. Where can you get Pixel Shader 3.0 without buying a new graphics card?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

"Its not a "download." It is part of hardware. Graphic cards aren't that expensive. Try getting the Nvidia 6600 limited edition, it supports pixel shader 3.0, and its cheaper then the other card, the 8800. The 6600 LE is about 40 dollars, whilst the 8800 is around 50 dollars.

I don't know who edited it and changed the 8800 to 300 dollars. -.-' Its only 50 bucks if you want an 8800 GS, but then again, some people are tightwads."

His right its a part of the hardware but you can emulator pixelshader using a SwiftShader. Heres a tutorial for it

Will a PCI Express graphics card work in a PCI-X slot?

NO. If you have a pci-x slot, probably it is a server, and you want to upgrade your graphics card, you can buy a PCI card and plug it into your PCI-X slot. It should work probably.

Where can you get pixel shader emulator like swiftshader but free?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

SwiftShader is licensed to game developers, not to end users. So if you have a particular game you would like to run, try to convince the developers to integrate it. It's very unlikely you'll see a completely free alternative to SwiftShader any time soon, given the high level of technology...

What is Shader Model 3.0?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Since the release of DirectX 8.0 graphics cards have used programs/instructions known as Shader Models to help interpret instructions on how to render graphics sent from the CPU to the graphic card. Many games are increasingly listing Shader Model versions in their system requirements.

However these shader versions are tied to the version of DirectX that you have installed on your PC which is then in turn tied to your graphics card. This can make it difficult to determine if your system can handle a certain shader model or not.

To determine the version of DirectX you have running:

1. Click on the Start menu, then "Run".

2. In the "Run" box type "dxdiag" (without the quotes) and click "Ok". This will open up the DirectX Diagnostic Tool.

3. In the System tab, listed under the "System Information" heading you should see a "DirectX Version" listed.

4. Match your DirectX version with the Shader version listed below.

Once you've determined the version of DirectX running on your PC you can use the below chart to determine what Shader Model version is supported.

Please note DirectX versions prior to DirectX 8.0 do not support shader models

• DirectX 8.0 - Shader Model 1.0 & 1.1

• DirectX 8.0a - Shader Model 1.3

• DirectX 8.1 - Shader Model 1.4

• DirectX 9.0 - Shader Model 2.0

• DirectX 9.0a - Shader Model 2.0a

• DirectX 9.0b - Shader Model 2.0b

• DirectX 9.0c - Shader Model 3.0

• DirectX 10.0* - Shader Model 4.0

• DirectX 10.1* - Shader Model 4.1

• DirectX 11.0* - Shader Model 5.0

*DirectX 10.0 and higher will not run in Windows XP

One recommendation prior to installing a newer version of DirectX is to ensure that your graphics card supports that version of DirectX.

Will pci express x 1 work in a x16 slot?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The answer after this one is absolutely incorrect. A PCI-e x1 card is absolutely compatible with a PCI-e x16 slot, regardless if it is a rev 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 2.1, or even 3.0. It is indeed smaller, but that's one of the main reasons the ground pin / physical notching is present on these cards. It is safe to install so long as it is anchored.

x16 is compatible with x8, x4, and x1. It is this way, and it has always been this way.

----(Previous, incorrect answer)

No, it would be too small and may damage your motherboard and card.

How do you increase graphic card memory?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Many motherboards with integrated video use a certain amount of system-RAM as your video RAM. If this is the case you may be able to go into BIOS and change how much RAM is being used for this purpose. Note that in these cases increasing video RAM will decrease the amount of system RAM.

Other motherboards with integrated video have dedicated video RAM built-in. In these cases your only option is to replace the motherboard or, if the motherboard has an available expansion slot, disable onboard video & install a proper video card.

What makes a good graphics card?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

ram, its own ram

processing rate is super important

practically buy anything with big numbers

* erm not really.

Clock, bandwidth size and memory speed are more important then ram size.

Here is an example:

2GB GTX 285 would be completely out performed by a 1gb GTX 460, and totally destroyed by a 1.5gb GTX 480

Maybe you think that is a bad example, fine. A 512mb 8800gt would outperform a 1gb 9400gt. So DO NOT just buy "anything with big numbers".

Basically, look at ram last, and almost everything else first for gaming. Now for decoding, watching blu-ray and heavy graphics editing (and gaming on a resolution higher then 1080p), THEN ram size becomes a larger issue.

Yes it should. The PCI Express 2.0 is backwards compatible with the PCI x16 1.0 and 1.1 slot motherboards. However, PCI-e 2.0 cards on 1.1 and 1.0 motherboards will not be able to run at their max capacity.

When you buy a new graphic card how do you install it?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It all depends on whether or not the graphic card is an "AGP" or "PCI" (if your computer is newer: 5 years or newer, you should have an AGP port)the easiest way to tell is if it is an "AGP" card the gold part on the bottom will have 3 segments, where as "PCI" has 1 or 2. Its Very easy to install...first power down your computer, then unplug all the cables on the back (not always neccessary, but to make sure you have no power coming in at all, you can't be too careful) open the access pannel on your computer, if it is a tower, then it should be on the left side looking at the computer. You might have to take the screws off of the back, just look at the left pannel, then look at the back if there are 2 screws (1 top 1 bottom) then you take those out and set them aside. Some brands are different but this is just a basic explanation. If it is a desk top model (lays flat) then there should be 5 screws on the back around the cover to remove. You should have purchased an "ESD" strap from the electronics store where you bought your card, but if you don't have one, then just ground yourself to the chassis before you touch anything on the inside. Make sure that your computer is on a non-conductive surface, I.E. Rubber mat, plastic desk...etc Metal is not a good thing to work on. Make sure that you are not doing this on carpet either...don't want a static charge to zap your new card and everything else you touch do you? Once you have your case open, look for the AGP port. It will be close to the top of the motherboard, usually near all of your onboard stuff...USB ports, Printer Port. This will be a female slot, sometimes brown in color. It will sit slightly farther back from the rest of the slots. Remove the old card (if there is one) if there is no card you will have to take off the protective metal cover off of the chassis. Insert your card into the slot, carefull not to force it. If you have to exert a lot of pressure, then you are doing it wrong. Be sure to apply even pressure to the front and back of the card while you are inserting it. Once it is in securly, use the screw that came off of the protective metal dust cover, (if it had one) to secure the card in place. If you didn't get on off of the dust cover, then the box that the card came with should have one. Leave the case off, and plug only your power cable, keyboard, mouse, and monitor back in. Start your computer up and install the software that came with the card, restart, once your computer comes back up the way it should, shut it down, put everything back together, and enjoy!
