How can I get my GED?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The GED Tests are administered only at an Official GED Testing Center.

The GED certificate must be issued from a State Board of Education in the state in which you take the tests. * There are thousands of diploma mills that operate without supervision of a state or professional agency and grant diplomas which are either fraudulent or lack proper standards to earn. Beware any website claiming to be accredited for GED. They will only take your money.

* There are legitimate high school diploma programs online - but you will not just pay a fee and then get a diploma. You have to take distance learning classes. * There are also legitimate GED preparation programs online-again, only preparation programs. You cannot take the official GED Tests online.

* If you are not certain about a program online, please call the State GED Administration office. They will help you research the legitimacy of the program. For help on GED test materials, GED practice test, GED testing location, fees, and information go to the American Council on Education website. Your local Testing Center can tell you: * Whether you can take the GED Tests * Where to find the Official GED Practice Tests * Where to find a GED instructional program * How much it costs to take the tests * When the tests are given * Other useful information The requirements and process of obtaining a GED are established by the laws of the state and the school district where the person resides. The GED test must be taken at an official testing center and it is not possible to get your GED online. To locate a local GED center, or to find out more about diploma mills, and accreditation, see the related links.

Whether online Aspen High School is legitimate or not would require knowing if it is complying with the law. The Better Business Bureau search shows no reference, the school shows no physical address to verify its existence. The only thing I turned up was what is in the Related Question below. This would all cast doubts on the legitimacy, but does not prove so or otherwise.

How do you start a GED program?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

GED for Adults Wanting to Learn EnglishIf you live in the U.S., check your local community college. Many have ESL and GED programs already in place--and often need teachers. Some larger community colleges with a large Spanish speaking population offer GED classes in Spanish; the test can be taken in Spanish. If you want to proceed on your own, start by teaching basic ESL. Once the students have about a second or third grade reading level, introduce them to ABE textbooks. (Math and science are often easiest for foreign speakers since math uses universal symbols and science uses many latinate words.) If they can get through the ABE level, they should be ready for GED texts.

Visit the official GED Testing Service website in the Related Links for information to find your local GED Testing Center. The center can tell you:

  • Whether you can take the GED Tests
  • Where to find the Official GED Practice Tests
  • Where to find a GED instructional program
  • How much it costs to take the tests
  • When the tests are given
  • Other useful information
