Yes, they smell very well. If you are wondering if they stink, they don't smell any worse than any other short-haired dog. If it starts to get unbearable, you've waited too long between baths.

My mini doxie just had her 19th birthday October 23, 2012. As long as she's not suffering in any way, I hope to have a few more years with her. She is partially blind & can't hear well but other than that, she's fine. With this breed the spine is usually what kills them as the spine affects all their major organs. She's not arthritic, in fact, she has good muscle & bone tone. She can jump down but is fearful to do so as she has no depth perception but gone are the days of getting up stairs or on furniture. You should ALWAYS feed and treat miniature dogs just like any other dog, if you have a big dog and a mioniature dog and you start treating the miniature dog special and the big dog normal the miniature dog will get cocky and the big dog will feel left out and mostly likely try and copy the miniature dog or worse, try and kill it, or injure it.

Could be allergies. If you are referring to a something that sounds like a cross between coughing and choking it's probably what is referred to a 'reverse sneezing'.
