The largest shark in the ocean is the whale shark, but could also be the "prehistoric" megalodon.

In the present the whale shark is the largest. In the prehistoric waters megalodon was the largest it was said it is as big as a sperm whale
The largest species of shark that is still existent is the Whale Shark. This species of shark can measure up to 40 feet long (that's 12.2 meters). They feed on plankton, sifting enormous amounts through their filter like gills.

The largest species of shark to have ever lived is thought to be the Megalodon. This species is now extinct. It is believed to have existed during the prehistoric era, and has not lived for millions of years. It is thought that this giant shark could measure up to 59 feet long (18 metres). Some cryptozoologists believe that this creature may still be alive today, living in very deep waters, but such claims have earned little credibility in the scientific world.
the great white
The largest species of shark is also the largest fish in the ocean, the whale shark. Despite reaching lengths greater than thirty feet (10 m), they feed only on small organisms such as krill, due to their tiny gullets. They are quite harmless to humans (and most larger species), and are popular tourist attractions in Mexico when they migrate during the summer months. It's possible even to swim with them.
The megaladon was the largest shark in the world, weighing 50 tons and being about 15 meters long. Its jaws are so massive it could probably swallow a bus. It became extinct supposedly, but many people and scientists believe they're still out there. A sort of spin off from the lockeness monster
