Are bagels vegan?

User Avatar

Yes, all French bread is vegan.

Well, almost all. Ordinary French bread made in France can contain enzymes and a long list of authorized additives, including E322 (lecithin) and E471 (glycerides of fatty acid), both of which can be of animal origin. So called "traditional bread" is legally supposed to be free of additives.

How do you butter a bagel?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

first you will need to get three things, a bagel, butter, toaster oven, and a butter knife. step 1, assuming you want a toasted bagel, put your bagel in the toaster oven and set the knobs to toast the bagel to your liking. next your going to have to open your container of butter. then, put the knife in the butter so that the knife is covered with a generous layer of butter. lastly take your knife, now equipped with a layer of butter, and spead that butter on the bagel.

How many calories in bacon n cheese bagel?

User Avatar

Most bagels are about 200-220 calories. Bacon is about 70-80 calories per 2-slice serving, and cheese is about 70 (assuming you just used 1 slice). All together, a bacon and cheese bagel would be somewhere between 340-370 calories.

How many bagels stacked would it take to reach the top of the Sears Tower?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Assuming you mean stacked flat with the holes up the middle:

Bagels are between 1¼ in and 1½ in in thickness

Depending upon source the Sears Tower is 1451 or 1454 ft tall.

So I'll give you a range of the minimum (based on thickest bagels and shortest measurement) and maximum (based on thinnest bagels and tallest measurement) number of bagels:

1 ft = 12 in

Minimum: 1451 ft ÷ 1½ in = 1451 × 12 ÷ 1½ = 11,608 bagels

Maximum: 1454 ft ÷ 1¼ in = 1451 × 12 ÷ 1¼ = 13,958 bagels

So it will take somewhere between about 11,600 bagels and about 14,000 bagels.

Using the mean average of these leads to about 12,800 bagels being required.

Note that the above assumes that the bagels (especially those at the bottom) are strong enough not to compress under the weight of the bagels above them.

How much does that stack of bagels weigh?

The source used for the bagels above states the 1½ inch thick bagel weighs 4 oz, the 1¼ inch thick bagel weighs 2.7 oz.

Thus the 11,608 bagels 1½ inch thick weigh 46,432 oz = 2902 lb ≈ 1.5 short tons;

and the 13,958 bagels 1¼ inch thick weigh 40965 oz ≈ 2560 lb ≈ 1.3 short tons

Which means the stack of bagels will weigh about 1.4 short tons.

What is the serving of a bagel?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

To "bread-slice" a bagel, you simply cut it into sections vertically as opposed to horizontally (the standard method of cutting a bagel). Instead of cutting the bagel once, you'll cut it multiple times, creating thin cross-sections.

Some bakeries bread-slice large orders of bagels, as this allows consumers to select small sections, rather than taking an entire bagel. The method is known as "bread-slicing" because bakers often use commercial bread slicers to accomplish even cuts.

In March 2019, a man named Alek Krautmann drew attention on social media for cross-slicing his bagels.

"Today I introduced my coworkers to the St Louis secret of ordering bagels bread sliced," Krautmann tweeted. "It was a hit!"

He included a picture of bread-sliced bagels with the post. Other Twitter users criticized Krautmann's "St. Louis secret," noting that traditional delis wouldn't consider bread-slicing their products (Krautmann reportedly had his bagels sliced at Panera, a popular bakery in the Midwest).

Others noted the practical benefits of bread-slicing: People can enjoy several different varieties of bagel, rather than committing to a single flavor. Nevertheless, within a few days of Krautmann's tweet, the #bagelgate hashtag was trending as people debated the merits of bread-sliced bagels.
