won by Olney 7-6 (10/8) 7-6 (15/13) 6-7 (7-9) 6-7 (21-23) 28-30

both players are notorious for serve vollying but on this ocasion the slice backhand was a faviroute for both players

the match was at NWRTC 5th of March 2007 wrexham box league.

UPDATE UPDATE

I don't know what this crap above me is, but this is clearly from like 1990 or something. The longest ATP tennis match has now been changed to John Isner vs. Nicolas Mahut. This was in Wimbledon 2010. I don't have much info on the match other than the fact that Isner won, they played for 3 days total, both got awards, and the umpire almost wet his pants continually sitting there. :)

If you want statistics, it's a famous match and I'm sure that you'll find info on it on other informational websites.

Who is the first tennis player to rank 1 in tennis?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Right now...Pete Sampras is at the top with 14 Grand Slam titles, next is Roger Federer.

But when I research (on wikipedia), they discussed that Bill Tilden was the greatest player...then there is Donald Budge who is the 1st person to win all four grand slam titles...

that's all I know so I really have no idea who is the 1st person to rank #1 in tennis.

Who is the greatest female tennis player of all time?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Our Users serve up their opinions:
  • Without question, the greatest female tennis player of all time was Margaret Court: With 62/63 Grand Slam titles to her name, she stands head and shoulders over the rest, and is one of the very few female players to win a true [full Calendar Year] Grand Slam. She is the best singles player, the best doubles player and the best mixed doubles player - the complete 'product'.

To boot, during this incredible career, she retired twice for family reasons and returned to again take up the leadership mantle.

  • Steffi Graf and, in second place, Martina Navratilova.

What is the average length of time for a tennis match?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

...How long is a piece of string? That's impossible to answer. It's generally the best of three sets. So if it's at two sets, it could be 6-0 6-0. Which could take under an hour. It it was 7-6 6-7 7-6, that could be two or three hours. Rain could delay play. Medics called out. Discussion on points. Injury. Toilet breaks. Tie breaks. Retirement. So many things could influence the length of a "normal ATP tennis match", so I'm afraid you can't slap a one hour time frame on it, and call it the length it takes to play.

Can you change hands in a tennis match?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

According to the rules of professional tennis, yes. Many female players have used double-handed strokes on backhand shots.

You could quite possibly switch hands during a match. But if you are an advanced player and not just playing social tennis, it would be quite an insensible thing to do.

Very few players are ambidextrous, mainly because of the many hours of practice required just to learn how to use one particular hand effectively.

What does break point mean in tennis?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

A break in tennis is when the server loses the game to the receiver. A breakpoint is the point of the game which, if the receiver wins the point, will result in the receiver winning the game. Such as if the score was 30-40. The next point would be considered a break point because if the receiver wins the point the receiver will win the game.

What energy system is used when playing tennis?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

There are three energy systems we use when we exercise.

PC/ alactic system- maximal intensity for less than 10secs-100m

lactic acid system- maximal intensity for >10secs<4mins- 400m

aerobic system- sub maximal intensity for >4mins- marathon

i am confused to the breakdown of each during a netball match the lactic system is used for running back and forth alot without stopping The Aerobic system may be used by a C player. These players have to run continuously and are ultra fit. But the main system used is the lactic acid system. Most players would be using the lactic acid system, along with the Alactic system. This would allow players to use explosive amounts of energy for short bursts, such as a short lead, or rebound. The lactic acid system would be used for double leads, blocking players, etc.

How many players are in a tennis team?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

In high school and college teams, there are about 20 (this is an estimate) players. However, only a select few of those 20 can be placed in the competition. Here's a rough outline of the draw:

Singles #1

Singles #2

Singles #3

Singles #4

Singles #5

Singles $6

Doubles #1

Doubles #2

Doubles #3

In doubles, there are 2 players against 2 players. In singles, there is 1 player against 1 player. I've played singles and doubles, so I for sure know this part. In team competitions, the school that wins the most matches wins. If there is a tie, I believe they add up the games (actual games, compared to points).

It is hard for one school to dominate, though it is certainly possible. You have to not only have a strong player, but many strong players. If your #1 singles player is ready to go pro, good for you! But if the rest are horrible, the coach might as well toss the keys in the trash and give up hopes for winning.
