What is the best pellet gun for shooting small varmints?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

There are several available. The most common are and readily available are made by Gamo and Crosman. But there are over 100 different manufactures. Most are available on the web. Any air rifle that fires above 800 FPS ( feet Per Second) will be sufficient. BUT: here are a few things to remember. Stay away BB guns and rifles or any combination of BB and pellet rifles. They are just not accurate. I suggest a spring powered rifle ( Break Barrel). These will be the most powerful. C02 rifles are fun but are not as powerful as a Springer. Pump rifles are good but you have to pump them 10 times to take a shot. The downside to a springer is you have to cock it every time you take a shot. But it is more effective for taking out varmints. Use hunting pellets, They Mushroom when they hit the target and will make a clean kill. If you can afford it select a .22 caliber air rifle over a .177 caliber rifle. It will have more knock down power than a .177.

Can a 1300 fps airgun kill a deer?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

If you are talking about a .177 caliber pellet. Most likely the answer is NO. But if you are talking about a 45 caliber or 50 caliber pellet then the answer is Yes. Pellet guns come in .177, .20, .22, .25, 9MM, 45 cal and 50 Caliber. The last 3 sizes are fired by PCP air rifles (Recharged pneumatic ) that require a scuba tank to charge them to 3000 PSI. They are still pellet rifles just the BIG BOY of pellet rifles.

When built pioneer air rife g6438?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The pioneer is a Romanian training air rifle that is very inexpensive. (I bought one at a gun show in 1995 for $5) Unfortunately there is very little information about them. They are not even listed in the official air gun bluebook. I found them to be a fun plinking rifle but not much more.

What is the quietest air rifle?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

If you are looking for a quiet air rifle, then look for one that has a "shroud" on the end of the barrel. An air rifle "shroud" on an air rifle is like a silencer on a firearm only it legal to have one on and air rifle in most places. The Shroud is often called a "noise dampener". Gamo offers the Whisper model that clams to reduce the sound by 52%. There are others that are much more quiet but they can be very expensive. As an example I own an Air Force Condor that has a full barrel Shroud with 5 baffles in the shroud. It's very quiet but expensive, costing over $700. The Benjamin Marauder is also a quiet air rifle with a full shroud at a cost just over $500.

I suggest you look at the following web page.
