Synthetic ice is a polymer-based ice skating surface. It is a type of plastic that takes slightly more effort to skate on it than real ice. But, if you're skating on a high-quality modern synthetic ice surface, the difference is very slight. Advances in synthetic ice have improved it greatly over the past 10 years or so. Synthetic is 100% synthetic. There are blends sold that are part synthetic & regular oil. Look for a quart that sates FULL or 100% Synthetic. If it says Synthetic Blend then it is not 100% Synthetic.
