Senda Berenson was born in Lithuania and was a Jew. She was not into sports at all as a child but liked literature and music. She had many siblings. Senda also suffered from severe back problems and was forced to go to a gymnastics school to strengthen her muscles which she then found an interest in sports. ~I did a project on her in school :D~

Women's basketball began in 1892 at Smith College. Senda Berenson taught basketball to her students hoping to improve their health.
