Which Olympic events can women take part in?

Synchronized swimming and rhythmic gymnastics are for women only. Softball was another - it has been dropped but a campaign is mounting to reinstate it at the 2012 London games.

Some other events have a slightly different male and female version. For example, in speed swimming only women compete at 800m and only men compete at 1500m. Another example in Track and Field: men compete in the decathlon (10 events); women in the heptathlon (7 events).

Technically women and men compete in all 26 categories this year, but women have 30 fewer events.

Women cannot compete in canoe and greco-roman Wrestling. However, there are kayak and other wrestling that they can do. Men cannot compete in two events, rythmic gymnastics and synchronised swimming. However, they have other gymnastics and swimming events.

As far as sports go, it's even, as far as events go, it's still strongly male.
