Does shoe size effect how high you can jump?

Yes, a shoe design would affect an athletes jumping height as there would need to be some sort of shock absorber to help with the landing, and a "spring" to help give them the needed bounce. If you wore convers, you would not get the type of support you would as if you were wearing an athletes shoe.

Yes, in some sense. However, the difference is negligible. Consider that an average man might run a mile in 8 minutes, 6 all out. Consider that an athlete could run that six minute mile with ease.

Could a more comfortable shoe make him run faster? Or would it only be making him more comfortable while his body did what it would have done anyway?

In spite of what shoe companies would have you believe, it can only make the athlete more comfortable. For certain long distances, that could actually be an issue. But even than, the speed, the distance, the jumping, would be 99.999% the athlete's will power and training and physique.

And possibly .001% his comfort level in his shoes.

Yes. Too many athletes under estimate the role of their track spikes have. For instance, if you long or triple jump in sprinting spikes your foot will not have the propwr plant on the ground to transfer power from your legs into the ground. I highly suggest you buy at least long jump spikes for both jumping events. Otherwise, you will obly end up almost never "pr"ing and possibly hurting yourself in the lobg run. (:

Simple answer: yes it might affect it slightly, but the elasticity (bounciness) of the ground and the athlete's physical fitness is more significant factors

spikes give you speed as you run to the turn, but that then you need to jump well to do complete rest.

Yes it does. Let's say that you have a size 12 shoe it would be harder to jump because the size of your feet but if you were to have size 7 shoes it should be easier to jump.

If you have tennis shoes/sneakers on then you will be able to jump higher than if you were in heels or sandals/flip flops.
