The Ryder Cup is a Golf Tournament awarded to the winner between an American team and a European Team which takes place every two years. It was previously a competition between the US and Great Britain starting in 1927, then briefly between the US and GB & Ireland in 1973, 75, 77, then the US and Europe since 79.

Unlike a tournament such as the US Open, the Ryder Cup has a different format. It features various match play competitions of players selected from an overall team of 12 of foursomes, singles and fourballs.

As it is a competition between golfers from the USA and golfers from countries in Europe, it alternates between being played in the USA and being played in a European country. It is played in different courses in the USA and different countries and courses in Europe.
