He broke the color barrier in baseball when he became the first African American player to ever play for a major league team. He played for the Brooklyn Dodgers, and won Rookie of the Year Award honors in 1947(His first season). He was often threatened by fans and hated by players on other teams around the league for his race. Much like Martin Luther King JR., he was able to not fight back to the discrimination with actions, therefore opening up the Major League's for more African Americans to come. He is now a member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame for two reasons, because he was a very good player, and a very good person. This would make him a civil rights reformer.
