Unfortunately, some kids who show potential as amateurs are often "home schooled" or drop out of school altogether. Even more so than in other professional sports, very few ever make a living racing dirt bikes. Just look at the current top 10 in American MX. Four of them aren't Americans. The 50th fastest guy in the US would make more money selling shoes. Think about it, only 49 guys in the whole country (and less than 100 in the world) are faster than this guy, and he makes less than fifty thousand a year!
I know it's hard when you're young to be realistic about the future, especially when you have a dream, but you should learn all that you can about as many things as you can just in case the Pro MX thing doesn't work out. It is possible to do both (school and MX). A racer with an education is much more valuable to teams and sponsors than just some "dummy" who only knows one thing. If you have a dream, that's great! Don't give up because it's hard. Anything worthwhile (racing and school) is going to be hard. Go to a Supercross or an Outdoor National and watch the guys racing for 20th place. That's your target. The guys behind them aren't making any money that day. The reason I can speak about these things is that I'm the father of a former Pro MX racer. Good luck to you.

∙ 15y agoEducation is not something you want to push to the side, but the main key to becoming a good or great rider is practice, practice, practice. Go to your local track as much as you can, and eventually enter a race. The more seat time you have on a bike, the better youll be.

∙ 15y agoNot to downplay education, I think in todays world, you need all of the education you can get. If you have dreams of becoming a pro rider, Motocross skills can only be honed by spending a lot of time on the bike. But that doesn't mean you should blow school off, only a extremely small percentage of riders are dedicated and lucky enough to be picked up by a factory team. Stay in school!

To ride a bmx you need to be a ble to ride a bmx. There are bmx schools where you can get coaching, but most are self-taught.
Since going pro is very, very difficult and rare to pull off, get an education that can get you a job if you don't turn pro. Or can get you a job when you you lose your sponsors deals. Or simply can't ride well enough to be competitive any more.
Study enough to know some business math and business language. If you manage to turn pro, you will need to check that the deals you are signing are fair.
