It realy depends on what team this engineer works for. Obviously, low financed teams will pay less and vice versa. Typically, a normal control system engineer could earn around £40 000 - £50 000 per annum.

i recon that f1 mechanics get half a million a year, but that is only if you are a very good one and you must be 30-40 years old. The Juniors that are 20 odd get 50-200k a year.

I have heard many times that an F1 mechanic is on something between 30-40k per year, you would only hit the 50k+ for engineers. Pit stop boys earn 20-30k per year.

From what I heard technical directors can earn more than £500,000 a year and the younger mechanics, who are usually in their early thirties, pick up £60,000 to £80,000.
