it is where you work with some other people . you don't do bars beam or vault . floor but different to artistic floor routines. You still use music though.

There are:

- womens pairs

- womens groups/trios (3 women)

- mens pairs

- mens groups(4)

-mixed pairs (boy as the base and girl as the top)

you work within a partnership.

this websites explains acrobatic gymnastics.
Acrobatic Gymnastics is one of the seven internationally competed Gymnastic Sports. Yes! you read that right. What most assume to be "Gymnastics"; type seen on TV, is but only one of a group of many acrobatic like sports that fall under the umbrella of the word "Gymnastics" and is recognized as so by the International Federation of Gymnastic (FIG). The seven internationally competed Gymnastic Sports hosted by FIG up thru World Championships, and some of which are also hosted by IOC at Olympic Games are Artistic Gymnastics- Men's, Artistic Gymnastics- Woman's, Aerobic Gymnastics, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Group Gymnastics, Power Tumble -n- Trampoline, and Acrobatic Gymnastics.

Acrobatic Gym competitions has athletes compete/perform in small groups of either Pairs, Trios or Fours. The performance is done on a 40x40 foot matted spring floor. Same dimensions and type as used in Floor Excercise in both Men's Artistic, Woman's Artistic, also Rhythmic Gymnastics. The available events are; but only one is competed and trained per season, Men's Four, Woman's Trios, Mixed Pairs, Men's Pairs, Woman's Pairs.

The skills they perform are done in one of three routines and are judged in areas of:

. Synchronicity in skills

. Execution of

.. Tumble,

.. Dance,

.. Partner balanced skills (human pyramid / Circus like) on hands and/or feet

.. Partner tossed (tempo) skills up to multiple flips and twisting skills.

.... Tempo skills can finish in a handstand or on the feet on top of partner(s)

. Balance and Tempo skills can also tumbled into.

The difficulty of skills performed is also a factor in the final score.

At the upper levels the three routines construction exist of dance and tumble. Two of the routines require different types of partner/Group skills. One is a Balance routine and the other an Tempo Routine. The third is a Combined routine. Each routine can be no longer than three minutes.

Overall it is a highly technical' yet beautiful stunting sport. While the skills executed are immensely more difficult than the other stunt sport of Cheer Leading the injury rate in the sport is significantly lower. This is due to Profesional skilled teachers using methods of sport science in developing athlete's skills, as well as more logical pairing of partners based on size and experience.
