Some say Gump Worsley of Minnisota NorthStars in 1974. However, he started wearing his mask that year. Andy Brown of the Penguins did not wear a mask the entire 1974 season. Another fact about Brown: I believe he at one time held the NHL record for most penalty minutes by a goalie, of course until billy smith came along.

Rogie Vachon of the Montreal Canadiens. Gump Worsley was injured in the 1969 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Rogie Vachon came in relief in the Semi Finals against Boston, and the Finals against St. Louis.

Although Lorne "Gump" Worsley didn't wear a mask until his final year in 1973-1974, the last one was Andy Brown from the Pittsburgh Penguins who played a game without a mask in April 1974 .
