Best Answer

Mickey Mantle with 18.

This record was set over numerous series and should not be confused with most home runs in one single World Series or in one single world series game.

The most in a single season in the United States is held by Barry Bonds with 73 in 2001. That is in the National League. The American League single season record holder is Roger Maris with 61 in 1961.

The most hit all time in the United States is Barry Bonds with 762.

The most in a season in Japan is 55 in 1964 by Sadaharu Oh. He also has the most career home runs in Japan with 868.

Josh Gibson played in the Negro Leagues. The Baseball Hall of Fame recognizes that he hit "almost 800" home runes in his career. The Negro Leagues did not keep statistics like MLB. Many called him the "Black Babe Ruth", but in light of Gibson's skills, perhaps Babe Ruth should have been known as the "White Josh Gibson."

The most by active players (as of 9/9/2008) is Ken Griffey, Jr. with 609.
